De slotaflevering van Breaking Bad werd binnen twaalf uur door een half miljoen mensen met elkaar gedeeld via BitTorrent. In deze deels gedownloade versie is prachtig te zien wat de manier is waarop dit netwerk functioneert en tot zo’n glitchy resultaat kan leiden:

The video simultaneously acts as a visualisation of bittorrent traffic and the practice of filesharing as well as being an aesthetically beautiful and unique by-product of the bittorrent process, the file codec and the size of the bittorrent swarm as the pieces of the original file are rearranged and reconfigured into a new transitory in-between state.

Steampunk meets retro fietsonderdelen, zo kan je deze geweldige lampen van Velolumiere wel omschrijven. Wat een prachtige objecten zijn dit zeg. Een tikkeltje aan de prijs, maar dan heb je wel een volstrekt uniek stuk in huis of op kantoor. Aldus de maker:

My creations started to emerge during 2010 winter, the desire to create something with bike parts hanging deep in my workshop, which I did not manage to bring myself to throw.

Music Hack Day leverde weer een mooie sociale muziektoepassing op. Matthew Ogle en Hanah Donovan draaiden in 48 uur de webapp That One Song in elkaar. De app bouwt voort op de toepassing This Is My Jam, waarbij luisteraars kunnen aangeven waar ze op een bepaald moment naar luisteren. That One Song selecteert uit de updates het meest gedraaide nummer van een bepaalde artiest. Dat wat bij luisteraars het meest gedeeld (en dus het meest populair?) wordt is dus leidend. Om tracks te kunnen beluisteren wordt geput uit content in diensten als Youtube en Spotify.
This hack lets you enter a band name, and based on This Is My Jam’s data, it’ll suggest which song you should listen to. There’s even a ‘B-side’ feature for hipsters – a more obscure song by the artist that people have loved lots on the main site.

Die wil je als wielerliefhebber toch boven de eettafel hebben? Een retro fietswielkroonluchter, mét Campagnolocassette om het stilistisch helemaal compleet te maken.
Our client, an avid cyclist, requested a light fixture to till the nook in his cafe. We created a chandelier based on a vintage bike wheel. Vintage Campagnolo hubs were laced to an Ambrosio Rim using brake cables.
De makers doen overigens nog meer met oude fietsonderdelen. Bekijk bijvoorbeeld deze Handlebar Bar, of de Bike Wheel Hanging Rails. Prachtig!
