Met Songwriter Service heeft muziekdistributeur Tunecore een dienst ontwikkeld die geld, dat aan de strijkstok van de major labels blijft hangen, terugbrengt bij de enige die er recht op heeft: de maker. In onderstaande video legt directeur Jeff Price één en ander uit.

Mooie docu over de remixcultuur, gemaakt door een aantal Yale-studenten:
“Walking on Eggshells” is a 24-minute documentary about appropriation, creative influence, re-use and intellectual property in the remix age. It is a conversation among various musicians, visual artists, writers and lawyers, all sharing their views on why and how we use and create culture, and how intellectual property law, originally designed to provide people with incentives to create, sometimes hinders creative production far more than it enhances it.”

In het licht van het ene na het andere draconische anti-piraterijvoorstel (ACTA, SOPA of uiteenlopende three-strikesmaatregelen) doet Neelie Kroes verstandige uitspraken. Tegenover de BBC verklaarde zij:
I am against piracy and believe in fair remuneration for those putting their products online but we have to go backwards and ask why is there piracy.”
Als één van de oorzaken ervan noemt zij het ontbreken van voldoende legaal aanbod. In dat licht is het zinvol de reeks informatieve blogposts op Boekeman, getiteld De digitalisering van de muziekindustrie vs. de boekenwereld: het ultieme overzicht, te volgen. Deel één en twee zijn inmiddels verschenen. Morgen en overmorgen volgen de overige delen.
Grafische partituren zijn allesbehalve nieuw, maar de wijze waarop de samenwerkende kunstenaars Quayola en Abstract Birds het met Partitura hebben aangepakt ziet er wel erg mooi uit. Ik weet niet of celliste Hildur Guðnadóttir (in de eerste video hieronder) het volgende week ook in Leeuwarden gebruikt, maar het zou wel iets zijn waarnaar ik extra uitkijk. Over Partitura:
Partitura is a custom software to generate realtime graphics aimed at visualising sound. The term “Partitura” (score) implies a connection with music, and this metaphor is the main focus of the project. Partitura aims to create a new system for translating sound into visual forms. Inspired by the studies of artists such as Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Oscar Fischinger and Norman McLaren, the images generated by Partitura are based on a precise and coherent system of relationships between various types of geometries. The main characteristic of this system is its horizontal linear structure, like that of a musical score.”
