Ongebruikte piano krijgt boekenkastbestemming

Ongebruikte piano krijgt boekenkastbestemming

This is the last piano from the first half of last century built in Riga Pianofactory. The piano is coated with cherry wood veneer. The body of this piano was damaged, also the key’s were broken.

As work progresses, the strings and hammers where removed from the body. The body was made deeper that we could build there bookshelf. The keypad was restored. Piano lacquer casing was removed, damaged veneer patterns where repaired and to the edges we made new moldings from mahogany and we lacquered it with glossy varnish. The bookshelf was made from mahogany veneer, and the contents were prepared with matt lacquer.

Neem een loopje met Paul Simon?

Neem een loopje met Paul Simon?

Dat moet de uitdaging voor Elijah Aaron geweest zijn toen hij deze cover van Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes opnam. Knap hoor!

For the Record: docu over het gilde van vinylmakers

For the Record: docu over het gilde van vinylmakers

The meaning of life is not making records, it’s enjoying making records.”

A expedition undertaken to discover, learn, meet and document the ideas and people behind the controls of vinyl record production.

Recorded over 6 weeks, travelling through Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the UK – For The Record exposes a number of notions about why vinyl is such an indelible medium and how it continues to remain popular in the the face of opposing format change.

Ontwerper Ted Reichenbach:

I wanted something better. The classic paper stripe as a bookmark has always been a temporary solution for me. Because i like to leave my books open I got the idea of a whole new concept.

I wanted something better. Something, whose shape is similar to the shape of the opened book, like a negative to the positive” and prevents it from damages. With that the idea of book hook was born. With my first sketches I let it produce as a prototype. After more improvement with regard to the material, angle and edge devolution was a marketable product of high-quality produced.

The book hook is an innovative bookmark, a practical storing place and a beautiful design object at once. I am sure that especially readers will like my book hook and it will be a welcome gift idea for every occasion.”

Themasong Fresh Prince ge-Google Translate

Themasong Fresh Prince ge-Google Translate

Technically speaking, all but the first verse were translated. The lyrics were translated from English to the world’s most spoken language (Mandarin), to the second most (Spanish), to the third most, to the fourth most, ETC, putting all 64 languages in order by finding the demographic population size on every language on Wikipedia.

Fun facts:
The last translation we put it through was “Esperanto”, because apparently, only 10,000 people speak it.
No one has an official language of “Latin”, but we had to assume a lot of people are still able to speak it. So that was a bit ambiguous.
Proper Nouns never really changed. Neither did numbers, as you can tell in the last stanza, “7,8”.
We have no idea why we did this.

They had to act quickly. In just a few hours, the storm’s contaminated waters would start to corrode the vulnerable media beyond recovery. Fortunately, New York’s art and archiving communities came to their aid — over the next four days, a team of volunteers including restoration specialists from AV Preserve, MoMA, Rhizome, and others were able to salvage 1,500 DVDs, VHS cassettes, MiniDV tapes, and other digital and analogue storage media containing irreplaceable artworks and documentation dating back to 1997.

The Future of the Digital Archive:
