Liturgy verlegt de blackmetalgrenzen
We hebben Shining al en vanochtend maakte ik dankzij Pitchify kennis met de muziek van Liturgy. Geweldige blackmetal, gespeeld door een viertal dat je op het eerste gezicht slechts zijige Pinkpoppop zou toevertrouwen. Maar niets is dus minder waar. Sterker nog, de verwantschap met een meesterwerk als Super Ae van de Boredoms ligt voor het oprapen. Bijzonder is dat het nieuwe album Aesthetica uitkomt op Thrill Jockey, een label dat vooral bekendstaat om haar postrock- en Chicago-improvreleases. Het volledige album is hier (Spotify) te vinden. ‘Aesthetica’ is the intense sophomore LP from New York’s acclaimed Black Metal unit, following their highly regarded 2009 debut ‘Renihilation’. In it, Liturgy further deconsecrate the land between Black Metal, Hardcore and experimentalism with supremely dextrous instrumental abilities and the natural force of the brilliantly named Hunter Hunt hollering from front and centre. Most of the tracks deceivingly originate from simple refrains before surging into feats of complex, furious and dissonant musical athleticism, yet their effect is ironically simple, direct and often curiously hypnotic.

Jerusalem’s muzikale leven in de remix
Mashupkoning Ophir Kutiel (Kutiman) heeft zijn kunsten op Jerusalem gebotvierd, wat onderstaande video opleverde. Voor mensen die zijn werk nog niet kennen: bekijk The Mother of All Funk Chords eens, de video waarmee hij in 2009 veel bekendheid kreeg. Of bezoek gewoon zijn Youtubekanaal, met daarop nog veel meer juweeltjes.

Als liefhebber van de wat zure en frisse bieren lijkt chocobier me het niet helemaal, maar de wijze waarop de Portugese brouwer Sagres zijn nieuwe product introduceert is wel geweldig.
The agency’s creative team believed that if Sagres made a chocolate beer, the perfect way to launch it was also to create a website made of chocolate.
This said, the first step was to find and hire the best Maître Chocolatier in Portugal. Mr. Victor Nunes, artistic director of Óbidos International Chocolate Festival, started sculpting the website live at this year’s venue. Later on, his artisan sculptor team finished it at their chocolate factory. The artists sculpted the entire website in chocolate pieces, moulding it according to the design provided by the agency.
Afterwards, at the agency’s studio, the chocolate frame and all the website components were shot in the different positions and stages.
These images became the raw materials for the website.
To invite consumers to try the new product, Sagres offered a piece of the chocolate website and a 6Pack of Sagres Preta Chocolate. Every day, during a specific hour, users can ask for a bite of the website.”

Wearable electronics is waarmee Adafruit zich bezighoudt en manchetknopen maken daarvan in hun filosofie onderdeel uit. De pulserende knopen zijn identiek aan de slaapstand van een Mac en reverse ge-engineered. De gebruikte software is open source beschikbaar.

Spotify in de bibliotheek? Spotify in de bibliotheek! (deel 2)
Ruim een jaar geleden pende ik de blogpost Spotify in de bibliotheek? Spotify in de bibliotheek!. Het leek me namelijk zó voor de hand liggend: onze digitale muziekbehoefte laten verzorgen door een aanbieder die z’n rechtentechnische zaakjes op orde heeft. Bij roepen en bloggen is het echter niet gebleven. Onder meer via de Happening en niet in laatste plaats de samenwerking met het innovatielab zaten we gisteren met Spotify om tafel. Erop terugkijkend een positief en constructief overleg met realistische mogelijkheden. Zoals ik liet zien in de presentatie op de 23 Dingen Deel Dag vormen de componenten luisteren, delen, aanbevelen, apps, mashup/remix en zoeken het muziekbibliotheekwerk van de toekomst. Streaming aanbod is daarbij een vereiste en Spotify zou daarin een geweldige partner zijn. Het voorstel van hen zie ik daarom met uiterst veel belangstelling tegemoet. Wordt vervolgd.
