Af en toe vraag ik het me af: hoeveel kost dat nou, de gunst van zo’n Europese Commissie? En wanneer daalt het nu een keer in bij de industrie, en zij die hun oren daarnaar laten hangen, dat het een kansloze missie is? Delen hoort bij mensen, maak gebruik van die kennis in plaats van het de kop in te drukken. Een cultuur breken gaat namelijk niet zo gemakkelijk. Sterker nog, het is een misdaad.

Mash-up Daft Punk ontleed in web app
Anatomy of a Mashup is een erg mooi project van ontwikkelaar Cameron Adams. Hij maakte een mashup van de discografie van Daft Punk en legde dat proces vast in een web app. Op zijn blog legt hij uit:
In order to explain the layering and interplay that goes into something like a Girl Talk album or The 139 Mix Tape, I decided to take my own mashup of Daft Punk’s discography — Definitive Daft Punk — and reveal its entire structure: the cutting, layering, levels and equalisation of 23 different songs. By dividing up the sound data for each song and computing its appearance in real time, the resulting visualization gives you an understanding of the unique anatomy of this particular mash-up.”

Boekentoren van Babel
De Argentijnse kunstenares Marta Minujin maakte een 25 meter hoge toren, opgebouwd uit 30.000 uit verschillende taalgebieden afkomstige boeken. De 52 ambassades in de stad zorgden voor 16.000 exemplaren, uiteenlopend van romans en encyclopedieën tot softwarehandleidingen en woordenboeken. De rest van de boeken werd bijeengebracht door Argentijnse burgers.
This modern version of the Tower of Babel was designed in celebration of Buenos Aires’ designation as World Book Capital 2011, by UNESCO, and local authorities say it represents the ideas of pluralism and diversity which also characterize the Argentine capital city. This isn’t Minujin’s first experience with book installations; in 1983, when democracy was restored in Argentina, she built a replica of the Parthenon from books banned by the former military dictatorship.”
