Zondagmiddag: van Disney tot Politicalremixvideo

Maar het liefst wel met een randje natuurlijk. Daarom deze remixes van Jonathan McIntosh en ikat381.

Over de totstandkoming van Donald Duck Meets Glenn Beck in Right Wing Radio Duck zegt McIntosh:

This is a re-imagined Donald Duck cartoon remix constructed from 50 classic Walt Disney cartoons from the 1930s to 1960s. Donald’s life is turned upside-down by the current economic crisis and he finds himself unemployed and falling behind on his house payments. As his frustration turns into despair Donald discovers a seemingly sympathetic voice coming from his radio named Glenn Beck.”

Het commentaar van Glenn Beck, die een heuse overheidsgesteunde hetze in de video meent te herkennen, bracht ikat381 ertoe dit te gebruiken voor een remix met Mickey Mouse en Pluto in de hoofdrol:

En zo kom je de dag wel door, zeker als je uiteindelijk op sites als Politicalremixvideo terechtkomt. Allemaal gesteund vanuit ‘links’ natuurlijk, als je Glenn Beck moet geloven.

Schilderkunst meets indiepop

70 Million by Hold Your Horses ! from L'Ogre on Vimeo.

Een mooie samenwerking tussen de Parijse band Hold Your Horses! en de vormgevers van L’Ogre. Voor de clip bij het nummer 70 Million werden door de band 25 wereldberoemde schilderijen verbeeld.

L’Ogre – that’s David Freymond, Bruno Mendes, Olivier Tixier and Catherine Villeminot – have fashioned brilliant ‘live’ versions of some of the best-known paintings in the history of art – in fact 25 re-creations of masterpieces by Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso and many others – featuring the members of the band.

This is one of those ‘why hasn’t this been done before?’ ideas which, although made for the cost of a few plates of steak-frites, has been executed with a wonderful combination of painstaking accuracy and creative licence. And a lot of love.”

De New Yorkse ontwerper en dj Adam Parks heeft een aantal playlists samengesteld die passen bij je dagritme: adagio, moderato, vivace en presto. Deze Illuminated Mixtapes getuigen van smaak en muzikale kennis en zijn ook nog eens visueel aantrekkelijk weergegeven. Open Culture zegt erover:

These aren’t the lists you would use to impress the cool kids with your eclecticism, ironic tastes, or love of the obscure, but if you’re just looking for great soundtracks for the shifting rhythms of the day, they’re a perfect fit.”

Hoe Parks het streamingverhaal geregeld heeft ontgaat me, dus het kan zomaar dat de playlists binnenkort niet meer beschikbaar zijn. Tot die tijd echter een mooi voorbeeld van het digitaal aanbieden van muziek.
