Ervaar muziek met robotdock Shimi

Is dit de muzikale kompaan van de nabije toekomst? Onderzoekers van het Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology hebben een dock genaamd Shimi ontwikkeld dat muziek afspeelt, maar ook feedback geeft (hij swingt!) en niet vies is van luisteradvies. Shimi detecteert de muziekbibliotheek op een Android- of iPhonedevice en kan desgewenst op basis van ritmische en visuele input van de luisteraar daarin naar bijpassende matches zoeken. Middels sensoren en camera’s wordt de positie van de luisteraar in de gaten gehouden, zodat de luidsprekers altijd in diens richting wijzen.

Shimi-ontwikkelaar Gil Weinberg – die samenwerkte met professor Guy Hoffmann van het MIT Media Lab, IDC in Israel, investeerder Ian Campbell en robot designer Roberto Aimi – zegt:

Shimi is naar verwachting in 2013 beschikbaar voor consumenten via het speciaal hiervoor opgezette bedrijf Tovbot. Hoeveel Shimi gaat kosten is nog onbekend, maar geïnteresseerd ben ik zeker!
